With a great personality and great eye-appeal the sleek Pinktail Chalceus is overall a magnificent fish. Found in the highly oxygenated rivers of South America this active and predatory fish displays a bright pink tail with large silver iridescent scales on its upper body as its lower body displays smaller scales. However their fins range from pale orange and yellow to a dark red color.
If kept in captivity it is highly recommended that Pinktails Chalceus be housed in aquariums with tight fitting lid as they are known to leap from water to catch insects. Most Pinktail Chalceus can tolerate a wide range of water parameters, but thrive best as individuals in aquariums 55 gallons or larger perhaps a 1000 gallon fish tank with excellent filtration and water movement.
In the wild the Pinktail Chalceus will take all types of live food like insects and other small fish. However in captivity they are known to do well on frozen food, flakes and pellets.
